The principal function of the Mason City Public Library is to provide a quiet place for
reading, study and the search for information. The Board of Trustees of the library is
aware of the need in this community for meeting and community rooms where the
public can attend informational, educational, and cultural events. We believe that the
library meeting rooms can provide a forum for the free exchange of ideas.
The following rooms are available for public use:
• Mason City Room (capacity 160)- is located in the far west wing of the library
and accessible through its own entryway. Available equipment includes: sound
system, microphones, projection screen, chalkboard, bulletin board, podium,
piano, easel, and fourteen 6 ft. tables. There is a kitchen available for light
refreshments.
• Barrette Room (capacity 6)- is located on the second floor of the library.
Available equipment includes a chalkboard and an easel.
• Learning Center (capacity 40)—located on the second floor of the library.
Available equipment includes: chalkboard, easel. Overhead presentations can
be arranged if the group provides its own projector.
Meeting rooms are available for activities during the library’s normal operating
hours. Groups are expected to be out of the rooms fifteen minutes before closing
time. Any use of the Mason City Room outside of regular library hours entails an
additional hourly fee and will be permitted contingent upon availability of security /
building services personnel for the event.
Any group, association, or individual interested in promoting cultural, educational,
civic, or other activities that will not interfere with the library's principal function,
and which are appropriate to the facilities and are compatible with the public interest
as determined by the Board of Trustees, or as provided by law, are encouraged to use
the Library’s meeting facilities. Each organization shall be expected to ensure that its
members and guests conform to standards of good behavior and all library behavior
policies. Please see the policy statement on Library Conduct for additional guidance.
Groups using the Library’s meeting rooms must comply with the Policy on Meeting
Room Use. Please review these before making a reservation.
