Those of us we have been true readers all our life fully realize the enormous extension of our being which
we owe to authors.

ELDEST by Christopher Paolini
Reviewed by Sam Stange

I have just finished a wonderfully magical book entitled Eldest by Christopher Paolini. This is the second in the Inheritance Trilogy. I read the first book, Eragon, less than a year ago and loved it.  When I saw Eldest at the library, I had to pick it up and read it.  I found it better than the first book!

This 681 page tome is filled with adventure, romance and action. It takes off, as expected, where the first book left off.  The battle with the Urgal army of Galbatorix has ended.  Now, the main character, Eragon, and Saphira, his dragon, must go to Ellemera to finish the training that was started by his mentor, Brom, who died in the first book.    This book follows three story lines—Eragon and his training; his cousin, Roran and his battles against the Raz’ac; and Nasuada and her “problems” with the Varden.  Eldest is full of twists and turns and cliffhangers at the end of each chapter. It includes lots of new and interesting characters, as well as all of the old favorites from the first book.

I have not told you much about the book, for it is complex and I fear that giving anything away will ruin part of the story.  Let us just say that if you enjoyed Eragon or are a fan of fantasy in general, you will enjoy Eldest even more.
