The Friends of the Mason City Public Library

The Friends of the Library is a group who supports and promotes the Mason City Public Library.  The Friends raise funds to be used by the Library for activities not ordinarily covered under the library's operating budget.  The Friends currently have about 98 members.  We contribute to the summer reading program for children and young adults, and to the Writers' Workshop.  We have recently authorized the purchase of baskets for the use of library patrons, and a training program for those who need help using the electronic card catalog.

We look forward to serving with you. In 2008, the Friends donated $1908 to:

• Support the Children’s Summer Program with $580 and the Adult Summer Program with $350
  

• Provide $2,000 toward the purchase of a television/Wii system

• Host Meet and Greet Receptions for artists and authors

• Celebrate National Library Week with a reception and geranium/bookend sale
  

• Celebrate the Holidays with candy canes for the children and a reception for the patrons and staff
  

Friends of the Library Membership

You are invited to join us for a minimum donation of $5.00. You may pick up a membership form at the front desk of the library and return it at the library or mail it to us at 225 2nd St. SE, Mason City, IA  50401.

Friends of the Library Membership Activities

PARTICIPATE: Attend library events, summer programs, and fund raising efforts.

SERVE: Friends average hosting one reception a month for visiting authors and artists.  Volunteers are needed to assist the hosting board member.  Other varied opportunities present themselves throughout the year.

CONTRIBUTE: Cookies or cheese and crackers are always needed for the receptions.  Hospitality Chair, Penny Anderson, will welcome your call at 423-8393.
