Summer Library Challenge May 30 - July 14

Challenge yourself to Find Your Voice this summer at the MCPL May 30 - July 14! We have special FREE challenges available for youth of all ages. Participants will track their reading and activity progress using a log and earn tickets to enter into prize drawings. Beginning May 30th, stop by the MCPL or scroll down to find your challenge log to get started!

Participants will earn entries for prize drawings as they progress and will receive a free book of their choice and a Godfather's mini-pizza when they complete their challenge log..  Drop-In Camps 

Stop by these themed station events to join in a variety of fun activities! Participants will enjoy crafts, STEAM activities, take & makes, and more! These events are designed to work with your busy life, so drop in for 30-45 minutes during the scheduled time to join in the fun! All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Ages 11 and under

  • June 5 @ 2-6pm: Dinosaur Day
  • June 19 @ 2-6pm: Superhero Day
  • June 26 @ 2-6pm: STEAM Day

 Baby & Toddler Outdoor Storytimes 

Join us outside on the MCPL lawn for a fun storytime perfect for babies and toddlers. We will share stories, songs, movement, and early literacy tips!

These events will be held outside, so please bring a blanket to sit on and sunscreen and bug spray if needed. Storytime will move inside to the Storytime Room in the event of rain or extreme heat. We will announce changes on our Facebook page. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Ages 4 and under.

 Chalk the Walk 

Drop by and help us decorate the MCPL sidewalks with beautiful chalk art! Children under 11 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Ages 18 and under.

 Surf Ballroom Instrument Petting Zoo 

Drop by the Mason City Room to try out a variety of musical instruments! Thanks to the Surf Ballroom Music Enrichment Center for their generosity! All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

 Scavenger Hunt Week 

Drop by any time during the week of July 3-8 to participate in a fun, self-directed scavenger hunt! Pick up your checklist at the Youth Services desk, find the items around the MCPL, and check them off your list. Bring your completed checklist back to the desk for a prize! Ages 18 and under. (MCPL is closed July 4th)

 Tween Crafts 

Tweens can get crafty at the MCPL! These events will be held in the Foundation Room and are for 9-11 year-olds only!

Starting May 30, teens aged 12 to 18 can stop by the MCPL Youth Services desk to pick up a challenge log or print it off from this page! Teens will earn entries to win a grand prize drawing and will recieve a free book of their choice and a Godfather's mini pizza certificate!  Events 

We'll have a range of fun activities and events to keep teens entertained and engaged throughout the Summer Library Challenge! With something for everyone, teens will have the chance to express themselves, have fun, and have a great summer break. All teens are welcome! Ages 12 - 18 only.

 Drop In Craft Stations 

Drop by the Young Adult area any time during these weeks to find your voice and use your creativity on some fun, laidback crafts! Come alone or brings friends; all supplies are provided and no registration is required. For ages 12 -18 only.

  • Black Out Poetry and Paint Chip Poetry: June 27 - July 1
  • Suncatchers: July 5 - 8
  • DIY Button Making: July 11 4 - 6:30, July 12 4 - 6:30, July 13 1 - 3:30

 Drop In Craft: Kindness Rocks 

Express yourself through rock and pebble painting at this drop-in craft event for adults. Painted rocks can be taken home or placed in an unexpected place as a random act of kindness and beauty to share with others. All supplies are provided and no registration is necessary.

  • Thursday, June 29th, drop-in between 4:00 - 6:30 p.m.

 Show and Tell  

Show and tell isn't just for preschool! Share those small objects with big meaning - whether it' s a collectible figurine, hobby item, craft project, souvenirs from a trip, or a favorite book. If there's an item that's too big to bring, bring in a photograph.

Light refreshments will be served!
